Week two of my London Marathon training started well with a hilly four miler on the ring road which I ran in a respectable time (that’s only for my pride – it’s endurance I really need to build up at this stage). The following day saw me at my first of six London Marathon training meetings at Virgin Money, where advice and morale enhancing chat was given by Virgin Money’s very own marathon star, Kevin Revell. Pumped up by this session I was ready to fly like Mercury the next day for my second training run. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’d warmed up the wings on my feet properly as after five minutes my right hamstring decided to have a system error. I hobbled on as best I could, but I had to cut the run short by half a mile. This meant that I didn’t run my weekend runs, which included the long run of the week. I did, however, run a really gentle two-miler on Sunday with my daughter who’s training for the Race For Life 10k on May 18th here in Norwich – my right leg didn’t feel so bad, which made me feel a bit more positive for next week.
So, now I’m doing plenty of stretching and keeping my legs as warm and supple as I can so I don’t miss any more runs. Especially as I’ve decided to enter the Freethorpe Ten in eleven days time. Gulp!
